What do the lights mean?

The Check-Set Calibrator has 3 indicator lights
       i. Blue – The unit is powered and on
       ii. Green – The unit has reached temperature
       iii. Red – An error was detected

Can the Check-Set Calibrator verify the accuracy of a stepped stem thermometer or step-down probe?

Yes, stepped stem thermometers or step-down probes are compatible with the Check-Set Calibrator. This has been tested and confirmed by the Tel-Tru engineering team.

Can the Check-Set Calibrator verify the accuracy of both digital and dial thermometers?

Yes. The Tel-Tru Check-Set Calibrator is designed with multiple probe holes of various diameters to accommodate a wide range of stem lengths and diameters, allowing you to quickly and accurately verify the performance of virtually all your digital, dial, and RTD thermometers.

How often should I send my Check-Set Calibrator in for recertification?

To ensure continued accuracy and maintain regulatory compliance, it is standard practice to have your calibrator recertified annually. Tel-Tru offers a quick and reliable Re-Certification Service for the Check-Set, ensuring your unit is always traceable to national standards.

How does the Tel-Tru Check-Set Calibrator simplify the calibration process compared to an ice bath?

The Check-Set Calibrator uses a highly stable, temperature-controlled dry block to create a precise reference temperature. This method is faster, easier, and more accurate than traditional ice baths, eliminating the common errors associated with making a true 32°F (0°C) slush bath, improving efficiency across your facility.

My thermometer is too big/small for the holes in the Check-Set. What should I do?

Additional cores available for purchase include:
– 1-hole ¾” Well
– 1-hole ½” Well
– 1-hole 3/8” Well
– 3-hole 3/16”, ¼”, 3/8” Well
– 3-hole 3/16, ¼, 3/8, Well with Calibrator

What thermometers can I use?

The default core that comes with the Check-Set Calibrator has holes for thermometers with stems of a diameter of .125”, .150” and .187”. For different diameter stems, check additional cores available for purchase at Tel-Tru.com
All stems must have a minimum length of 3.5”. This ensures the thermometer is being properly controlled.

I turned on the Check-Set, but it still has not reached temperature. Is something wrong?

For the 32/212 units, it takes approximately 15 minutes to get to temperature
For the 40/160 units, it takes approximately 10 minutes to get to temperature
If it takes longer than the allotted time, this could indicate the ambient temperature, or the airflow is inadequate. Make sure the device is being used in an environment between 65°F (18.3°C) to 75°F (23.9°C). Make sure nothing is blocking the fan in the back or the holes on the side of the device.
If the device still does not reach temperature, the Check-Set will turn on the red error light to indicate there is an issue. Please contact customer service.

A red light has come on, what should I do?

The red light indicates that the was an error within the Check-Set Calibrator.

To handle the error, you can:
– Turn the Check-Set Calibrator off and on again. This may clear any software errors.
– Make sure the Check-Set Calibrator is in an environment between 65°F (18.3°C) to 75°F (23.9°C).
– Make sure nothing is blocking the fan in the back or the vent on the side of the device.
– If the red light persists, please contact Customer Service.

How do I pack the Calibrator for return?

Calibrator Warranty

For warranty information concerning a product purchased from Tel-Tru, please refer to Section 12, Warranty, of our Terms and Conditions policy.

What if my Check-Set unit needs cleaning?

Only insert clean thermometers into the Tel-Tru Thermometer Calibrator opening.

Wipe the stem of the thermometer before inserting it into the calibrator.
Wipe the stem again before inserting the thermometer into any food product.

If it becomes necessary to clean foreign matter from inside the opening in the Tel-Tru Thermometer Calibrator, you may use cleaning brush(es) which are available to purchase on the Accessories page.

Turn the unit off and allow it to cool to room temperature before proceeding.
Insert the brush to full depth and rotate the brush as you remove it.
Repeat this process several times until no matter is observed on the brush.
You may dampen the brush slightly with a sanitizing fluid if you wish, but do not use more than enough to dampen the brush.

Clean the external surfaces of the calibrator with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

How do I order annual recertification?

Tel-Tru offers annual maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and accuracy recertification of each Check-Set thermometer calibrator. If your company has net terms with Tel-Tru, you can email customerservice@teltru.com with you SN#, PO# to use for this service. We will process the RMA and send you those instructions with order verification.
